Police presented with ‘armour of God’

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVG) received a number of Bibles and Magazines from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in a session held at the Criminal Investigation Department Office (CID) on February 16, 2010.{{more}}

The session heard remarks from Evangelist Eugene Benjamin from Antigua. Evangelist Benjamin in his address spoke about his life of sin up until the age of 17; he said he believed this was the result of his dysfunctional family as he often had to watch his father beat his mother. He took the opportunity to appeal to gang members and all persons to change and give their lives to Christ. He then told members of the CID that the best bullet proof vest they could ever put on is the word of God.

Co-ordinator of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Region of Seventh Day Adventists, Pastor Dermoth Baptiste, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Police department for their continuous work in protecting the general public. He then took the time to show members of the CID the Traveling Bible. The Bible weighs 18 pounds, consists of 15,000 pages and measures 12×18 in dimension; and has 66 books, each of which is in a different language. He said the main reason for this is because the word of God is Intercultural and Inter Generational for all civilization, irrespective of their pedigree, economic fortunes, social backgrounds, political affiliation and social engagements. He said the Seventh Day Adventist Church recognizes that the Bible is universal in scope and that the book is one no one can live without, hence the reason they embarked on the project. The Bible which is traveling the entire world arrived here on Monday 15 from Grenada and will be here for a total of 14 days.

120 copies of small Bibles were given to the Police force, with the promise of 900 magazines to be distributed each month evenly for each officer. The magazines cover Health, Family Life, Social Issues and Spiritual Doctrine.

Commissioner of Police Keith Miller expressed his extreme gratitude for the Magazines and Bibles and for allowing their department to be the first ones to read from the Traveling Bible. Inspector Nicholls of the Complaints and Public Relations Department read from Isaiah Chapter 43 verses 1 – 5.
