Past student donates to School for Children with Special Needs

The students at the School for Children with Special Needs received a treat this week with donations from a past student.

The London, England, born daughter of Vincentian parents was accommodated at the school when her mother Annette came home to take care of her ailing mother.

Since then, the 25-year-old woman, diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, has made it her business to make a personal donation to the students every time she visits St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“I love children. I love helping people,” Stacy explained to Searchlight as she dished out candy, make up kits, stationary, key rings, perfumes, among other things, to the appreciative students and faculty on Wednesday morning.

She said that on her return to the United Kingdom, she intends to set up a charity organization which would raise funds for persons with disabilities here at home.

Stacey, who is employed at an arts and crafts store, says she intend to make her donations a tradition, by bringing more and more on every visit home.

The elder Cottoy, who is a member of the Vincentian Women’s Association in Waltham Forest, a support group that assists hospitals, clinics and schools here, also made a call for other persons local or overseas, to follow the example of her daughter and make donations or visit the students at the institution.

Meanwhile, Acting Principal of the school, Nazeem Smith Williams, said that individuals and organizations over the years have been making donations to the institution. She used the opportunity to encourage others to follow suit.
