Browne is new Dean, Caribbean Diplomatic Corps in Ottawa, Canada
His Excellency Brendon Browne was unanimously appointed recently as the new Dean of the Caribbean Diplomatic Corps in Ottawa, Canada. High Commissioner Browne replaces H.E Evadne Coye who returns to Jamaica as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Services.{{more}}
His appointment comes at an important time as Canada, one of the G8 countries, embarks on a new relationship with the Caribbean. As evidence of this, for this first time, Canada has appointed a new Minister with specific responsibility for the Americas and the Caribbean. Among the matters with which the new Dean will be faced are the following:
- The Canada-CARICOM Free Trade agreement
- The thrust in education and training collaboration between Canada and the Caribbean
- Criminal Deportees
- The proposal for wavier of visa requirements for the relevant Caribbean countries
- Refugee claims
