“What To Expect When You Are Married” authored by Vincentian born Hyacinth Richards of Diamond will be launched on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the Mt. Moriah Youth Development Centre at 5:00 pm.

Hyacinth, a teacher by profession, has worked with many couples to help them build strong bonds in their marriages and it is out of these sessions that the book was born.

“Couples need to be cognizant of the fact the institution of marriage needs daily nurturing from day one until life ceases to exist,” said Hyacinth.

She told SEARCHLIGHT her hope and aspiration is to help others see marriage as a dynamic and worthwhile venture that can present lots of opportunities and manageable challenges.

Presently, she is the First Elder of the Mt. Moriah Seventh Day Adventist Church. She is a talented preacher and an exceptional motivational speaker. Hyacinth has conducted scores of seminars, motivational sessions and symposia on social issues pertaining to women, youth, family life, child development and home management throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

One wonders whether it is a coincidence that Hyacinth authored her book in the lead up to the nation’s thirtieth anniversary of independence. She believes that it is God leading. Hyacinth began her career as a teacher on October 26, 1979, and exactly thirty years later, she is privileged to be placing her book on the bookshelves here.

After completing her secondary education at the Mountain View Adventist Academy, Hyacinth was accepted by the College of the Virgin Islands to study Science so as to move onto the field of medicine, but poor modes of communication in those days prevented the acceptance letter from getting to St. Vincent on time.

Thereafter, Hyacinth decided to become a teacher, her second career choice. After one year as a probationary assistant teacher, Hyacinth went to St. Vincent Teachers’ College and on completion she became a Qualified Assistant Teacher.

She then did her Bachelor’s degree in School Management and Administration from the University of the West Indies and passed with first class honours. Later she pursued her Master’s of Science Degree in Educational Leadership and Management from the University of Leicester and passed with honours. Currently, she is the Deputy Principal at the Adelphi Secondary School.

Hyacinth has been happily married to businessman Kenriff Richards for 24 years.

The union has produced four sons: Kenron, who has completed his first degree in Accounting and Finance and is currently finishing his Masters in Finance; Kishron, a final year student at the University of the Southern Caribbean in Trinidad who is pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology; Jeron, a freshman at the University of the Southern Caribbean, and Roniff, a fifth form student at the St. Vincent Grammar School.(HN)
