Steele, LIME reach deal to extend CE contract

Angus Steele is to stay on as LIME’s Chief Executive.

LIME’s Corporate Communications Manager Fitz-Gerald Huggins on Wednesday confirmed that Steele had reached a deal with the telecommunications company and his contract has been extended for another year.{{more}}

The first hint that Steele would stay on came from Telecommunications Minister Jerrol Thompson on Monday, September 28th, 2009, at the Taiwanese Trade Fair.

“I don’t know if it’s premature. I would like to see Mr. Angus Steele stay here. I am sure a formal announcement will be made at some point in time as to whether he will stay,” said Thompson, adding,”It’s not my duty to announce that. I suppose the company will announce that in due time.”

Thompson said he was happy to have Steele, not only in his management capacity, but also as President of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

The minister noted that he has dealt with several heads of the Chamber, but was particularly impressed with Steele.

Steele, a Grenadian, was due to leave LIME on September 30, 2009, two months before his contract was to expire in November.

In an August 13, 2009 interview with the National Broadcasting Corporation, LIME’s Corporate Communications Manager Fitz-Gerald Huggins said that the company’s Board and Steele had mutually decided to part ways after they failed to come to an agreement on the terms of a new contract for Steele.

The disclosure of his departure from LIME came approximately one month after he was re-elected President of the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce on July 14th, 2009. Steele was first elected President of the Chamber on July 16th, 2008. He took over from Jerry George, the Corporate Communications Manager of LIME’s archrival Digicel.

Steele, who holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Natural Sciences, took the mantle of leadership at Cable & Wireless, St.Vincent and the Grenadines Limited now LIME on Saturday, December 1st, 2007.
