Pan Against Crime heads to Lauders

The Pan Against Crime Programme of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force resumes this weekend with the staging of a concert this Sunday September 27, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the hard court above the Lowmans Windward Anglican School.{{more}}

Two steelbands, Potential and Genesis Steel Orchestras, will provide entertainment, along with the Police Band, Lowmans Wd. and Lauders Primary Schools, Shaunelle Mc Kenzie and other Cultural Groups from the area. Ministers Selmon Walters and Saboto Caesar, Commissioner of Police Keith Miller and a Youlou Pan Movement Representative will give remarks, while an exhortation will be delivered by Pastor Exton Clarke of the Lowmans Wd. Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The community of Lauders will officially receive its steel pans, compliments the Social Investment Fund. Two other communities, Georgetown and Rose Hall, are also scheduled to be beneficiaries of steel pans at Social Investment Fund sponsored projects, on October 10 and November 1. Pan Against Crime Concerts will also be held on these dates.

The Pan Against Crime Committee, in support of the 30th Anniversary of Independence celebrations, will stage a “Pan Jamboree” on Friday, October 23, commencing at 4:00 p.m. at Heritage Square. Young pannists from the Social Investment Fund sponsored steel bands who started playing the steel pan in 2008 are expected to put on a solo and duet display at this event. “Play a Pan, Arrange a Song, Build the mind, Down with violence and crime” is the theme of the Pan against Crime Campaign.
