Exotic Nails School and Salon coming

From mid-September, Vincentians will have an opportunity to pursue training in cosmetology right here in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, courtesy Mel’s Exotic Nails School & Salon Inc. International Schools & Tutors of Barbados.{{more}}

The training school and salon, which will be set up in Arnos Vale above the Church of the Nazarene, is the first of its kind to be established here.

Melissa Clemonds, proprietor of the business, bubbled with excitement on Wednesday as she spoke of the opportunities that exist for St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

“It’s going to boost the economy and it will help to develop skills needed for the hotel industry. With the airport coming on stream, more persons will be passing through. You better get ready,” said Clemonds, who plied her trade as a financial advisor/insurance agent before entering the beauty industry.

She said Vincentians can use the new skills to create employment for themselves as they pursue courses which will be done on both a part time and full time basis.

She told SEARCHLIGHT she has done her research and there exists nothing on the scale that her team will be bringing to St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

Clemonds, a licensed Cosmetologist in Beauty Therapy with 10 years experience, said she was motivated to set up a branch in St.Vincent and the Grenadines due to the number of calls and invitations that she received from Vincentians. She specializes in massage therapy, nail and hair care, facials and makeup artistry, as well as dreadlocks. Clemonds is also the Managing Director of a Day Nursery and Preschool and also holds a certificate in childcare and nursery management.

She explained that coming to St.Vincent and the Grenadines may have been a twist of fate and so far she has no regrets.

Clemonds noted that efforts were made to train Vincentians at her school in Barbados, but it was challenging for them to pay accommodation along with their fees for the programme. As a result, she decided to bring her services to these shores.

“We will be committed to providing the highest quality results in beauty training and services for men and women. Our services include massage therapy, hair removal, small business management, body treatments business start up, bridal packages, spa parties and treatments for executives,” said Clemonds as she explained the areas that persons will be trained in.
