Sayers wins his way to $20,000

Everything came in twos for the latest winner of the Digicel Mad Money Promotions, when the third of five draws took place on Monday at the company’s new corporate headquarters on the corner of James Street and Middle Street in Kingstown.{{more}}

Kamarlo Sayers, a part time caterer of Brighton, walked away with EC $20,000, beating nine other hopefuls to the grand prize, which was safely tucked away in a little red bag.

Sayers, speaking to SEARCHLIGHT after the draw, said that he followed his instinct throughout Monday’s draw, which began with a friendly game of blackjack, a game he had never played before.

Sayers’s telephone number was the second to be pulled from a bag which determined the order he would sit at the blackjack table; this also determined the order in which he would select a bag.

He was the second person to be ‘eliminated’ from the game when he received 19 counts – two counts short of the desired 21.

Keeping his second place elimination in mind, when it was Sayers’s turn to select a bag, he selected the second bag from the left, which contained the $20,000 jackpot.

The other finalists received prizes ranging from handsets, to top ups between $100 and $150.

The 25 year old Sayers indicated that he has no immediate plans for his winnings, but insists that one tenth of it will be given to a charity to be decided upon in the near future.

He qualified for the draw by topping up more than $15 and making use of the Free after Five long distance promotions.

With two more draws to go (the next on August 14th and the final on August 28th), Digicel customers have a chance of winning the remaining $40,000 of the $100,000 up for grabs.(JJ)
