Liberty Lodge Safe Health Practices programme to begin Wednesday

Monday, August 3, 2009, will mark the launch of the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre (LLBTC) – Safe Health Practices Programme. The programme, which is a collaboration between the LLBTC, the US Peace Corps and the National AIDS Secretariat, will commence on Wednesday, August 5, 2009.{{more}}

The programme is being sponsored by USAID with other assistance provided by the National AIDS Secretariat and the LLBTC. Wednesday’s brief launching ceremony which starts at 4:00 PM at the Liberty Lodge Boys’ Training Centre, will see the handing over of

t-shirts donated by the National AIDS Secretariat. Brief remarks will be made by representative from The National AIDS secretariat, the Liberty Lodge Boys Training centre, Ministry of National Mobilization and the US Peace Corps.

The programme, upon commencement, will provide an opportunity for the boys of the Centre to build their leadership skills. Among the areas to be covered during the programme include: basic information on HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination, self-esteem, communication, behavioral and emotional maturity, hygiene and nutrition, and human rights. Other activities will include dominoes, marbles, football, arts and crafts.

Facilitators for the programme will be drawn from National AIDS Secretariat, St. Vincent Planned Parenthood Association, Community Nursing, St. Vincent Red Cross, Family Affairs Department, Marion House, Nutrition Unit – Ministry of Health and the St. Vincent Human Rights Association.

The programme will run until October 24, 2009.
