Brownie Sixers get boost from Girl Guides

The Girl Guide Movement is doing its part to ensure that young girls receive training, that will better equip them for success in later life, via its Brownie Sixer training programme.{{more}}

Fifty brownies benefited from three half-day sessions, that ran from February to May 2009, and on Saturday, May 16, and were awarded with certificates of their achievement.

The training programme, organized by Brownie Guide Commissioner Jacqueline Soso-Vincent, catered to the Sixers of Brownie packs from primary schools in Chateaubelair, Barrouallie, Troumaca, Layou, Calliaqua, Sion Hill, Stubbs, Calder, Lauders, Marriaqua, Evesham and Belair.

Soso-Vincent expressed, that she is confident that the training programme will facilitate the moulding of future leaders, and enable the Brownies to become stronger and more confident individuals. At the closing ceremony, she encouraged the Sixers to “share this knowledge with the other members of your Brownie pack!”

Topics covered included, Leadership Skills, Road and Personal Safety, History of Guiding, Etiquette, Knots, Self Esteem, First Aid and Personal Hygiene. Several members of the Girl Guide family including Janel Lewis, Valina Browne, Jacqueline Soso-Vincent and Frederick Forbes provided training.
