Vincy Culture to raise funds for needy children in SVG

HIGH WYCOMBE – The Men’s Christian Fellowship of the Sands Seventh-day Adventist Church has organised another fundraising event to take place in High Wycombe. The event will take place on ‘National Hero’s Day’ March 14, 2009.{{more}} The event, which will benefit needy Children in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), has been organised in collaboration with the High Commission for St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the SVG Associations in the UK. It will also launch Vincy Homecoming 2009 in the UK.

The evening of spirituality and culture will start with a multi-denominational Thanksgiving Service commencing with the entrance of SVG’s national flag borne by Vincentians serving in the British Army. After a short recess, the Cultural section showcasing performances by various talented Vincentian Diaspora groups and individuals will begin. The evening will end with attendees retiring to an exhibition of Vincentian produce and craft where traditional Vincentian cuisine will be available for purchase.

Vincentian nationals who will participate at the event include: ‘Prince Marcus’, who is currently serving in the British Army; Decent Henry, Chairman of SVGA London; Rev Dr Charles Cropper of SVGA Birmingham, Roland Sutherland and Margaret Childs.

A representative for the Fellowship said: “This is a Vincentian Diaspora event, not just an Adventist event… We are not doing this for fame. We are doing this for the children.”

H.E. Cenio E. Lewis, High Commissioner, said: “We are proud that various Vincentian diaspora groups and individuals in the UK have selflessly pooled their ideas and talents together to help children in need in their homeland. It is fitting that such a collaboration which meets the ideals and spirit of Vincy Homecoming 2009 will launch it in High Wycombe, the heart of the Vincentian diaspora in the UK”.

Last year the Men’s Christian Fellowship organised an outstanding Gospel Concert featuring multi-ethnic gospel groups based in Buckinghamshire and the international acclaimed Croydon SDA Gospel Choir.

The event raised in the region of £2,600 for charities assisting SVG.

Approximately £1,200 of the amount raised was donated to the High Commissioner Special Fund which assists poor school children in SVG.

This year’s event will take place at St. Andrews Church, Hatters Lane, High Wycombe, Bucks, HP13 7NJ. The Thanksgiving Service will commence at 15:30 and the Cultural Event at 18:00.
