Rural communities to benefit from CED/OAS-funded project

Several rural communities here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will benefit from a project “Reducing Rural Poverty through Entrepreneurship Development (RRPED)” being executed by the Centre for Enterprise Development Inc. and funded by a grant from the Organisation of American States under its priority area- Social Development and Creation of Productive Employment.{{more}}

As part of the project, CED will conduct capacity building exercises through a series of Training of Trainers aimed at equipping the employees of several institutions and government departments that work directly with communities with the skills to facilitate the development of entrepreneurship in rural districts.

The second major aspect of the project will see a number of rural residents engaged in acquiring entrepreneurial skills to provide them with the competence to start and operate successful businesses. Following this training, some residents will be provided with the resources to start a small business.

The first in the series of training seminars will begin here next Monday, January 26th, 2009, with the Training of Trainers taking place in Kingstown at CED’s conference room, commencing at 8:30 a.m., and the Community Entrepreneurs- hip Training at the Chateaubelair Learning Resource Centre starting at 6p.m.

An opening ceremony is scheduled to be held prior to the start of the training programmes and will hear addresses from Mrs. Melene Glynn-OAS Ambassador, Hon. Dr. Jerrol Thompson-Minister with responsibility for the CED and Mr. Felix Lewis-General Manager, CED.
