SVG churches host Independence service

With songs like ‘Why Worry’, ‘Lift up Your Hands and Praise the Lord’ and ‘Joy Cometh in the Morning’, as well as scripture verses which suggest hope for the future (Isaiah 54:4-14, Matthew 6:24-34), the service of thanksgiving to mark the 29th anniversary of this country’s Independence took place last Sunday.{{more}}

Under the theme ‘A Blessed Nation, Our People, Our Pride,’ the service organized by the churches of St. Vincent and the Grenadines was held at Heritage Square to a turnout, though small, which was appreciative of the music, messages and prayers that filled the area on an overcast evening.

Sunday’s programme included thanksgiving and confessions, hymns and choruses and a number of prayers of intercessions for the nation, as well as music by the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force Band.

Feature preacher Reverend Victor Job admonished those in attendance to keep faith in God, despite the many concerns that they, like him may have as Vincentians.

Among Job’s concerns are the current spate of crime and violence, food and fuel price crisis, the belief that most Vincentians are living beyond their means and other social issues.

He urged Vincentians to learn to take hold of the situations that are confronting them and try to improve them if possible, and learn to live with them the best way possible.

Job said that the best way for the nation to deal with these situations is by putting their trust in God, who knows the needs of all and how to supply them.

He further stated that the priority of Vincentians, as we approach our 29th independence anniversary and beyond, is to seek the kingdom of God, live one day at a time without worrying about tomorrow.

The Thanksgiving service was the prelude to a series of activities which took place during the week and continues over the weekend, including the highly anticipated Military Parade which takes place on Monday at the Victoria Park. (JJ)
