Browne off to Beijing
Minister of Sport, Hon Michael Browne, arrived in Beijing on Wednesday.
The Minister now joins former Minister Louis Jones as the only two serving Ministers of Sport in St Vincent and the Grenadines to attend the Olympic Games.{{more}} Jones attended the Centennial Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1996.
Browneâs invitation came through the National Olympic Committee, as is the norm for these Games. Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves was also invited and will be represented by Minister Browne who will, therefore, serve in dual capacities.
Minister Browne is not in Beijing only to watch the Games. He will attend the Meeting of the Ministers of Sport of the Commonwealth which will be held during the Olympics. There are several matters down for discussion among the Commonwealth Ministers of Sport and Minister Browne is expected to make important contributions to the various issues.
It is expected that the Minister of Sport of Trinidad and Tobago will seek to have his Commonwealth counterparts duly apprised about the Caribbean Games 2009, scheduled for the twin-island Republic.
