Telecoms provider launches 2008 Carnival itinerary

With a commitment to be visibly involved in carnival for years to come, telecommunications provider Cable & Wireless kicked off its 2008 Carnival itinerary on Tuesday with a media launch at the company’s head office in Kingstown.{{more}}

Outlining an extensive list of activities in which the company, mainly through bMobile, will be involved in, Marketing Manager Fitzgerald Huggins indicated that Cable & Wireless has decided to step up the game, by offering longer term contracts to a number of their beneficiaries.

These include a three-year contract to the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC). Rural Carnival, Vincy Foreign Based, and also the Vincy Soca Dans – a group of artistes under the umbrella of Island Networks Management, also stand to benefit.

Other beneficiaries include Tamisha Nichols, a contestant in the 2008 Miss SVG Pageant, a Carnival Monday T-shirt band, a Carnival Party hosted every Friday at Heritage Square, beginning on June 6th, and the Soca Train and Fire Fete.

Huggins indicated that Cable and Wireless also contributed EC$300,000 towards the Carnival Development Committee’s running of the 2008 event, along with EC$120,000 in cash and services, which includes all telecommunications costs incurred by the CDC and the provision of a broadband circuit for video streaming. According to Huggins, talks are underway with leading online entertainment website www.torontolime.com, which will assist in the promotion of the “Hottest Carnival in the Caribbean” to the diaspora.

Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless Angus Steele said that the company’s contribution is in keeping with its commitment to Culture, Sports and Education.

He expects the sponsorship to continue and more than likely increase, as Vincy Mas grows from strength to strength.

The media launch also heard remarks from Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste, CEO of CDC Ashford Wood and a number of organizations which are receiving assistance from Cable & Wireless.(JJ)
