NLA makes donations

In its continued quest to promote sports and culture, the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) donated a total of $72,500 to three organizations on Wednesday.{{more}}

In a handing over ceremony at the NLA conference room, the Fisherman’s Day Committee, the Squash Association and the National Lotteries Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra received donations.

Chairman of the Fisherman’s Day Committee Leonard Charles received a cheque valued at $20,000 towards the fisherman’s day activities. Charles said the money will be used to purchase a four stroke 75 Yamaha engine. He said this engine would burn less fuel and save much needed revenue for the winning fisherman.

President of the squash association Dr Sherian Slater and Treasurer Anne Millar accepted a cheque of $30,000 on behalf of their Association. Slater said that the money will go towards the renovation of the squash complex for the Senior OECS tournament from May 22nd to 25th.

Accepting the cheque for the National Lotteries Sion Hill Euphonium steel orchestra was Captain Septimus Cain and Treasurer Keisha Johnson. The organization received $22,500 which will assist in paying the band’s arrangers and tuners. It will also be used to purchase new steel pans for preparation of Panorama 2008. Cain thanked the National Lotteries Authority for sponsoring them another year. He urged persons to support the lottery because they are supporting sports and culture.
