Sir Louis hits below the belt

It was described as “a little picong” by the Prime Minister, but Sir Louis Straker got personal as he attacked Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace during the Unity Labour Party’s (ULP) solidarity rally last Sunday at Kingstown.{{more}}

Sir Louis, who is a four-term parliamentarian in the House of Assembly, stooped low for just under a minute in his references to the Opposition leader.

“Have you ever looked at Arnhim Eustace when he is mad? He is not the most handsome man. He has good face in which you can play mas,” Sir Louis said.

“And when he gets mad he grinds his teeth just like little children who have hook worms,” Sir Louis continued.

For most of his speech, however, Sir Louis suggested that the allegation of rape against Dr Gonsalves was in fact a deadly combat of two ideologies.

“This matter is not a matter with Ralph and anybody else. It’s a matter of two ideologies,” Sir Louis said.

Sir Louis said that while his ULP fights for the poor and the middle class, the New Democratic Party (NDP) looks out for the economic upper class. He said that the desire to look out for the well-being of the poor is clearly seen in ULP policies and every budget “always have something in it for the poor.”

He also stressed that Eustace had no authority to speak on behalf of the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines because his NDP did not win the elections.

“Nobody gave him a mandate. A mandate was given to the ULP. The Government speaks for the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Sir Louis said.

Sir Louis congratulated the ULP supporters for showing their support for Dr Gonsalves, calling him a great leader, “not only in St Vincent and the Grenadines, not only in the Caribbean, but throughout the world.” (KJ)
