PM gets support from diaspora

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves received a vote of confidence this week, through a letter of support from The National Committee of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Associations in the United Kingdom.{{more}}

The letter, dated February 18th, and signed by Paul Clark on behalf of the committee, indicated that following a unanimous decision by those present at a meeting the previous day, the letter was sent to show their support of the Prime Minister, in light of the allegations brought against him by a female police officer.

“We believe you when you say you categorically deny the allegations and that they are false and malicious.”

“We are of the view that the motives, political or otherwise, are behind the pursuit of these allegations. We understand that the Leader of the Opposition has called for your resignation. We regard such a call for your resignation as opportunistic and totally unacceptable.”

The letter questions Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace’s demands for a resignation, and applauded the move by Director of Public Prosecutions Collin Williams’ decision to discontinue the complaints.

The committee, which is made up of members of SVG Associations of Reading, Coventry, Luton, Wycombe and Birmingham, as well as SV2G, stated that it supported the Prime Minister fully against the allegations, and urged him to be strong during the difficult period.

It expressed admiration for his leadership of the country and observed the progress made in the search for development. (JJ)
