Grammar School students get a Taiwanese cool down

Taiwanese Ambassador Jack Cheng has donated two water coolers to the St. Vincent Grammar School. Last Tuesday, acting Headmaster Nigel Scott and 10 students of the school received the coolers at the Embassy.{{more}}

Ambassador Cheng used the opportunity to tell the students about the 2008 Taiwan Scholarships and encouraged qualified students to grab this opportunity to apply.

According to Ambassador Cheng, five more overseas scholarships, ranging from Bachelor’s degrees to PhDs will be offered by the Taiwan Government. The scholarships will include airline tickets, tuition, and a monthly stipend. So far, there are 21 Vincentian students studying in Taiwan.

The Ambassador also said that the Embassy will continue to offer local scholarships by providing EC$270,000 in October this year to assist students from primary schools to colleges who are academically good or financially disadvantaged. This programme usually benefits more than 300 students and their families each year. Scott, on behalf of the staff and students of the Grammar School, expressed deep appreciation to Ambas-sador Cheng for the long-lasting friendship, support, and generosity given to St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the years. He said he believed such a cordial friendship will continue to grow and prosper.
