2008 Young Leaders programme kicks off

With a directive from RBTT Assistant Manager Garfield Williams to be passionate about this year’s theme, the 2008 Young Leaders programme officially kicked off its 11th year with a brief launching ceremony last week Thursday, January 24.{{more}}

Under the theme: “Bridging the gap. Building relationships for a better tomorrow”, 21 secondary schools, along with the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre, are expected to compete for a number of lucrative rewards, for themselves and their respective schools.

Over the next four months the students from the schools will be engaged in a number of theme based projects, dealing with issues that affect them, their schools and their communities.

Williams, in his address to the students and teachers assembled at the Anglican Pastoral Centre, urged them to use the knowledge gained in the various projects and research as the foundation of their approach to their everyday lives.

He noted that in today’s society where there is a serious breakdown in morals and values, as well as respect for authority, adults and the elderly, this year’s theme has great relevance.

Williams indicated that RBTT was delighted to give young people a chance to get involved in projects of this nature, and urged them to appreciate the value of team work in the community and the environment, among other things.

The winning schools receive awards of up to EC $5000, along with individual prizes.

The Girls’ High School has won the competition for the past five consecutive years. (JJ)
