SVG Police Officers give thanks to God

Last Sunday, members of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force armed themselves with a weapon of a greater magnitude than any other ever used within the ranks of the force, their Bibles!{{more}}

The Old Montrose Police Station was transformed into a temple of worship to jump-start the year of activities for the Police. The service of thanksgiving was held under the theme: “Giving thanks in spite of challenges.”

The theme rested heavily on the hearts of the officers, as they were still trying to come to grips with the loss of one of their officers, Police Constable Gary Robertson, who had passed away just the day before.

Hand in hand, singing praises unto the Lord, hearts were arrested and persons surrendered their souls to God, as a tidal wave of God’s Holy Spirit swept through the auditorium.

Delivering the sermon, former Police Officer, Pastor Lennox Haynes, of the Lodge Village New Testament Church of God, urged the officers to pray without ceasing and in everything give thanks, for it is the will of God. Pastor Haynes added that thanks must be given in every aspect and that it is God who has his hands in everything. He commended the Police Force for putting God first and said it was a good way to start off the New Year. “We must find ways to give God thanks. Once you put him first, everything would fall in line,” preached Haynes. He also noted that officers must show thanks even when faced with a situation of evil. The former cop told the officers that once they are in the force they would be faced with a lot of trying situations and urged them to practice constraint at all times. Pastor Haynes assured the officers that God will come through for them in 2008 and urged them to stay strong. “We don’t know what 2008 holds, but we do know who is holding 2008,” he ended.

Admitting that he was experiencing a sense of spiritual uplifting, Commissioner Keith Miller asked for the calendar of activities to be amended to include the service once every quarter.

The top cop told the officers that they must put on the armour of God anywhere they go.

Miller said the service could not come at a more opportune time, as the theme was appropriate for what the Police Force was experiencing at that time. “We have to give thanks despite the circumstances,” said Miller.
