Royal Navy recruit from SVG sails through training

A 21-year-old from Park Hill, St Vincent, was among the latest group of Royal Navy recruits to successfully complete training at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, achieving a long held ambition.

Trainee Logistician Pascal Medica joined the Royal Navy in October. She has now been transformed from a civilian into a sailor during a nine week intensive course designed to teach her the basic skills she will rely upon throughout her Service career.{{more}}

The former student of St Vincent and the Grenadines Technical College worked as a secretary before embarking on a career with the Royal Navy. Pascal said: “Joining the Royal Navy is one of the best things a person can do with their life. I joined the Royal Navy because it is the career I have wanted since I was 13 years old and heard an advert on the radio. Completing training is the most amazing feeling.”

With the first phase of her training complete, Pascal will remain at HMS Raleigh to begin her professional training at the Defence Maritime Logistics School. Once fully qualified as a Logistician specialising in catering services, Pascal will be a member of a team that provides official hospitality services at sea or ashore. She will also be trained to carry out other key tasks necessary on a modern warship.

HMS Raleigh is the Royal Navy’s premier South West training establishment. As well as training all new Rating recruits to the Service, the establishment also provides training in a variety of specialist areas, including seamanship, submarine operations and board and search techniques.
