Record breaking results for Rapid HIV Test Road Show
Some two hundred and sixty-one (261) more Vincentians now know their HIV status. The record breaking result emerged on the Grenadine island of Canouan, when the Rapid HIV Test Road Show moved to that location early this week.{{more}}
The National AIDS Secretariat formally introduced the service to residents of Canouan and the surrounding communities October 29th to October 31st. Hundreds of residents joined the long lines at the Canouan Health Center to access the service and learn their HIV status.
A spokesperson from the NAS has described the Canouan response as outstanding and encouraging and has expressed the hope that the other communities will be similarly enthused when the Road Show moves into their area.
HIV Testing and Counselling is recognized as a priority in national programmes worldwide, since it forms the gateway to HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment and support. The introduction of this service is part of the National AIDS Secretariatâs (NAS) initiative, aimed at enhancing local efforts to prevent and reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Rapid HIV Test enables an individual to know his or her HIV status within minutes. The test is viewed as an important technological advance in efforts to prevent and reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS.
The HIV Rapid Test Road Show continued in Chateaubelair yesterday. Parliamentary Representative for the area Dr. Jerrol Thompson was expected to lead the way by taking the Test.
