CXC awards for top performance in CAPE

This year, for the second time, CXC will award prizes for outstanding performance in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).{{more}}

The award for most outstanding performance overall goes to Mr Akash Maharaj of Presentation College, Chaguanas, in Trinidad and Tobago. Akash achieved Grade I in Communication Studies and Caribbean Studies, and in seven other Units, including Chemistry (Units 1 and 2), Physics (Units 1 and 2), Pure Mathematics (Units 1 and 2) and Applied Mathematics. For his outstanding performance overall, he will receive the Dennis Irvine award. The late Dr Dennis Irvine was a past Chairman of CXC.

Akash will also receive the award for most outstanding performance in Natural Sciences.

Two students from St Joseph’s Convent, Port-of-Spain, will receive awards.

Miss Valene Guerra will receive the award for the Humanities. She achieved Grade I in eight Units.

Miss Solange Moniquette will receive the award for Mathematics. She also achieved Grade I in eight Units.

Another student from Trinidad and Tobago, Miss Kirby Lochan of ASJA Girls’ College, San Fernando, wins the award for Environmental Science. She achieved Grade I in eight Units.

Two students from Harrison College, Barbados, will also receive awards.

Mr Shane Lowe, with Grade I in seven Units and Grade II in one Unit, will receive the award for Business Studies. Miss Renée Proverbs, with Grade I in six Units and Grade II in two Units, will receive the award for Technical Studies.

Also from Barbados, Miss Rhian Avery of Queen’s College will receive the award for Modern Languages. She achieved Grade I in eight Units.

Jamaican student, Mr Raphael Shackleford of Campion College, wins the award for Computer Science, with Grade I in seven Units and Grade II in one Unit. The awards will be presented to the top students at the opening ceremony of the Annual Meeting of Council to be held in St Lucia on December 6, 2007.
