Speaking at the launching of the 2007 Rising Star season at the Discovery Bay Resort in St. Lucia on Friday, June 15, Baptiste said that being on the show and ultimately winning the contest, changed his life forever.
Baptiste was a late call to the show after the tragic death of another Vincentian Patrice Bascombe, and the unavailability of Danielle Ollivierre who was to be Bascombeâs replacement.
Baptiste said that although the incidents leading up to his selection was unfortunate, he took the opportunity and made the most of it.
He encouraged persons who believe that they can make it in such a competition to give it a shot, and as long as they are determined they should not give up, listen to the judges and to be themselves.
For winning the 2006 edition of the competition, Baptiste earned among other things a recording contract, a two-year deal with Digicel and US$10,000.
