Lodge Village Primary gets sick bay

Students falling ill at the Lodge Village Primary School now have a sick bay in which to recuperate, thanks to teacher at the Liberty Boys Training Centre, Desiree Wilson.

The sick bay, which was started by another teacher as a project at the school was destroyed by fire but was refurbished by Wilson.{{more}}

Under the theme, “Reducing the loss of Instructional time through the Alleviation of Pain and Suffering” Wilson said the re-opening, which was held recently, was part of her practicum for her degree in Education Management at the University of the West Indies.

Wilson, who is also a vibrant Red Cross volunteer, re-activated a Red Cross group at the school and inducted 20 students. She said the students now have a group not only to socialize but learn life saving skills.

The educator also ensured that the school had three teachers trained in first aid to give technical support and training to Red Cross group and others in the community.

Wilson who strategically held the event on World Red Cross Day also handed over two white boards to the school to ensure that asthmatic teachers and students would not be hindered by chalk dust.

Principal of the school, June Russell praised Wilson for having a well thought out project while ensuring that critical areas of the school were assisted.

Commendations on the project also came from Senior Education Officer Sylvia Sayers who urged the students not to pretend that they were sick just to relax in the sick bay but noted that it was a place to rest and be revived. Welfare Officer of the St Vincent Red Cross Ruby Chambers also praised the project and encouraged the students to take care of it.
