SVG commended for its role in Education Management

This November, 30 Principals, Deputy Principals and Aspiring Principals are expected to travel to Jamaica for the graduation ceremony for their Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management which came to an end on March 27.

The students will all get the opportunity to meet the university’s chancellor individually to collect their certificate.{{more}}

This announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the nine month programme at the Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday 27th March. In giving the opening remarks at the ceremony, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Laura Browne congratulated the participants on reaching thus far.

According to Browne, the participants were able to balance their study time with their work and private life in order to accomplish their work. She however urged them that this is not the end of the road and encouraged them to continue training from time to time and read a lot.

Applauding the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for taking the lead and getting ahead of the task was the Dean in the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies at the University of Technology in Jamaica, Geraldene Hodelin.

It is her wish that all the other schools in the Caribbean follow the lead and she expressed the hope that those who participated in the study would be grounded citizens.

Also congratulating the participants for their achievements was the Associate Vice President in Continuing Education, Open and Distance Learning, Dr. Jeanette Bartley and Haldane Johnson, Senior Lecturer and SVG Project Team Leader who wished them success in their endeavors.

Deputy Headmaster of the St. Vincent Grammar School, Nigel Scott spoke on behalf of the group, and highlighted some of the fun times that they had as a group and what he learnt over the past nine months.

Though there were some hiccups on the way, when assignments were to be handed in, Scott described the journey as being a fun one and one that would always be remembered by them.

The students undertook their studies by using modern technology including emails, telephone and web-cams.

The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the European Development Fund funded the project.
