Jamaican man charged after impregnating 12-year-old

JAMAICA – A 21-year-old man who impregnated a 12-year-old girl during a seven-month relationship will be sentenced in the Home Circuit Court, Jamaica on Friday, after pleading guilty to carnal abuse.

The man, Kingston resident Erwin Watson, was scheduled to be sentenced last week, but the matter was postponed as his social inquiry report did not arrive in court on time.{{more}}

The girl, who the police described as being big-bodied, met Watson in December of 2004 and the relationship took off.

The girl, who was 12 at the time, would visit Watson at his mother’s home where they would have sex, the court was told.

After discovering that she was pregnant, the girl left home for two days on August 7, 2005.

Some time later, she was taken to the police station, where she told the police that she had a sexual relationship with Watson and where he could be found. Watson was subsequently arrested and charged with carnal abuse.

The girl later gave birth to a baby boy.
