Gymnasium, Olympic-sized pool for GHS

The past students’ committee of the Girls’ High School this week announced the launch of their plans for the centenary celebrations coming up in 2011.

The committee was formed at a meeting held at the Girls’ High School on February 7, 2007, chaired by Andrea Bowman, Headmistress.{{more}}

This meeting came out of a summit held in Toronto in August, 2006. Marjorie Williams-Cuffy gave a report on the summit and outlined plans for the celebrations.

The purpose of the meeting was to develop a “steering committee” here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, that will work collaboratively with the committee in the diaspora.

Williams-Cuffy also gave a proposed plan for an auditorium that would be built prior to the celebrations. Ideally, this auditorium will include a gymnasium and an olympic size swimming pool. This idea went over extremely well with the past students who were present.

Joye Browne, former headmistress of the school, was elected as the head of the local secretariat and will be responsible for attaining and disseminating information across the board.

Proposed activities for the 2011 celebrations include, but are not limited to a church service, an awards ceremony, a showcase of talent, a lecture series and a series of art nights.

All past students are invited to the next meeting, which is scheduled for April 11, 2007 at 4:30 p.m.
