Pentecostal Assemblies celebrate 40 years

The Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies (PAWI) will be hosting a series of events during this year to commemorate their 40th anniversary.

The announcement was made during a press conference on Tuesday with various ministers from different Pentecostal Assemblies in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The series of events will begin with a sports day in April followed by their 40th anniversary Excursion to Mustique in May.{{more}}

In the month of September the group will launch a magazine that will highlight most of the events that took place during their celebration followed by a series of other events.

Giving the opening remarks at the press conference on Tuesday, Superintendent of PAWI St. Vincent, Bishop Sony Williams described the Pentecostal Churches as coming a far way since their establishment in December 18 1966.

“We have overcome the stigma of clap hand noisy people and have earned the respect and have taken prominent places,” Williams recalled.

According to him, PAWI St. Vincent, has contributed significantly to the Education System in this country as they have established the Glad Tidings preschool, the Layou Trade School, the Faith Temple Preschool and the West Indies School of Theology, St. Vincent and the Grenadines extension.

Reminiscing on how he became a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies, one of the founding fathers of the organization Pastor Noel Clarke told the media that he became a member of the organization when he was 15 years old.

He recalled taking eight months before he got baptized and was very concerned about the way persons would discontinue serving God. “I decided that once I got baptized I would never turn back on serving the Lord.” He also recalled going on Friday and Saturday nights to spread the gospel to persons.

Also celebrating 40 years of evangelism Reverend George Fredrick expressed his enthusiasm with being a part of the celebrations of the PAWI.

The celebration will continue throughout the year with different activities at various times of the year. A joint radio station program and a documentary film are scheduled for December 30 of this year.
