SVG youths rewarded

Under the theme, “Youth Facing Life’s Challenges with Purpose” the National Youth Awards were held at the Cruise Ship Terminal on October 30.

Methodist Minister Reverend Elton Watson delivered the feature address and encouraged the recipients to stay away from bad company and the enticement of peer pressure.{{more}}

He pointed out that many of the challenges in life include health due to HIV/AIDS that is taking the lives of the youth and education which seems to be getting more and more expensive.

Reverend Watson also outlined poverty, crime and violence, drugs, pornography and double standards in HIV/AIDS as some of the challenges that young people face.

The Minister encouraged the National Youth Award Recipients to remain courageous, develop themselves, achieve their goals and to always seek the support of their parents and mentors for strength through difficulty.

The 2006 awardees were: Top Male Performer in Common Entrance Mbeki Swift, Top Female Performer Common Entrance Saskia Renton, Top Male Performer CXC Javal Wood, Top Female Performer CXC Priya Debnath, Top Male Performer A’Level Exams Kamal Wood, Top Female Performer A’Level Exams Denece Pompey, David Browne Most Outstanding Youth in Enterprising Business, Janine John Most Outstanding in Hospitality, Nicolas Bartholomew Most Outstanding Individual in Culture and Religion, Saska Diamond Most Outstanding Youth in Sports, Glenroy Caesar Outstanding Achievement Liberty Lodge, Derrick Telemaque Outstanding Achievement at the School for Children with Special Needs.

The 2005 top performers also received their awards at the prestigious event which was organized by the Youth Affairs Department, Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports.
