Youths get computer licence

Eighteen youths nationwide will be equipped with their International Computers Driver’s Licence (ICDL) when they have completed the course sponsored by UNESCO.

The ICDL is the world’s leading fundamental Information Technology certification programme and has over three million participants in 100 countries worldwide.{{more}}

National Secretary General of UNESCO LaFleur John said that UNESCO is excited about the programme and the impact it would have on the lives of the participants. She said that the programme, costing $12,000, will make the students more employable. The majority of the 18 participants are unemployed.

Programme facilitator Saymone Bascombe told the participants at the orientation that if they were not computer literate then they couldn’t consider themselves to be literate at all in these changing times. The orientation was held last Thursday, October 5, at the National Institution of Technology in Ottley Hall where the seven modules, six weeks programme will be held.

Included in UNESCO’s sponsorship is the students’ transportation to and from the programme centre. John said that she wanted to ensure that there are no obstacles standing in the way of the learning experience of the students.
