Dr. Joshua retires from VSU

After 31 years of yeoman service at Virginia State University (VSU), Dr. Michael Joshua retired on June 30, 2006. He is the son of the first Chief Minister of St. Vincent, the late E.T. Joshua.

At a ceremony to mark this milestone he received accolades not only from colleagues and administrative officials, but also from former students who returned to the campus to register their appreciation for the positive impact he has had on their lives. In recognition of his longstanding service Dr. Joshua was promoted to the rank of Professor Emeritus.{{more}}

During his tenure at VSU Dr. Joshua served in several capacities: Director of the Bureau of Economic Research and Development; Chairperson of the Department of Agriculture, and Faculty-at-large Representative on the VSU University Council. From 1979 to 1993 he served in the University’s International Programme, managing agricultural development projects in West Africa (Ghana, Liberia. The Gambia Ivory Coast and Burkina Fasso), and East Africa (Kenya and Sudan). In 1994, Dr. Joshua joined the teaching faculty of the Department of Agriculture as chairperson and coordinator of the Agribusiness programme.

Dr. Joshua is a graduate of the University College of the West Indies (1963: Social science/Government), Inter-American University of Puerto Rico (1965: Economics and Management) and the State University of New York at Buffalo (1974: Economics/Economic Development).
