Major Dwight Lewis honoured in Barbados

The Barbados Cadet Corps honoured this country’s Cadet Force Commandant Major Dwight Lewis at their annual awards ceremony at the prestigious Barbados Hilton, on Saturday17 June 2006. Among the dignitaries at the black-tie affair were the Minster of Education Anthony Wood, Permanent Secretary in the Division of Defence and Security Captain Randolph Straughn and the Chief-of-Staff of the Barbados Defence Force, Colonel Alvin Quintyne.{{more}}

Major Lewis joined the Cadet Force in 1975 and in 1985 he was among a group of six Cadet Officers from St. Vincent and the Grenadines who attended the Army Cadet Officers course at St. Ann’s Fort, Garrison, Head Quarters of the Barbados Defence Force. Presently, he is the only active serving officer from the group of six who graduated from that course twenty-one years ago. Major Lewis has been at the helm of this country’s Cadet Force for the last fifteen years.

According to the award citation Major Lewis was honoured for years of service and for the fact that he was one of the second set of potential officers on the course in 1985. Reference was also made to his contribution in the Caribbean cadet movement. In 1998 Major Lewis served as Chairman of the Standing Committee of Cadet Commandants in the region. Five other Officers from the Barbados Cadet Corps were also honoured at the ceremony. The Commandant of the Barbados Cadet Corps Lieutenant Colonel Trevor Browne presented the awards to the honourees.
