Mayreau trio rewarded for heroics

For their heroics, three members of the Mayreau Neighbourhood Watch were given a financial reward from the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force and Karib Cable.

Commissioner of Police Keith Miller praised the trio for the good work and highlighted that the neighbourhood watch in St. Vincent has received tremendous response. The commissioner said that security was crucial for the Grenadine islands, as tourism is a vital part of the economy. “We can’t allow thieves to destroy our tourism,” said Miller.

Commissioner Miller appealed to members of the various communities throughout the length and breadth of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to get involved in neighbourhood watch groups in their communities.

President of the Mayreau Neighbourhood Watch, Owen Isaacs, said that since they started the Neighbourhood Watch about one year ago, they have seen a drastic reduction in the levels of pilfering being committed on the tiny island. He mentioned that people were a bit hesitant at first about the watch but when they realised what the programme was doing many jumped on board. He even stated that the level of crime and violence has even been reduced. Isaacs said he and others involved in the Neighbourhood watch programme in Mayreau will continue to devote their time to protecting Mayreau.
