Roots Gordon appeals for help

A small audience grooved in the early morning as he delivered his musical piece, “love solution.” He has over sixty songs penned and ready but Elvis “Roots” Gordon is still a frustrated man.

Simply put he feels like a square peg in a round hole; working as a labourer to make ends meet while he would rather be making heads sway and feet tap to his intoxicating music.{{more}}

The SEARCHLIGHT caught up with “Roots” Gordon at the National Development Foundation’s opening ceremony for their 2006 exhibition last Thursday, April 6, at the Old Public Library Grounds. Gordon said that since he completed his first single, the above mentioned “Love Solution”, with the NDF’s funding in 2001 his musical dreams have been on a prolonged pause.

“I did a couple more songs and I am working on two more but I not seeing anything happening,” stated a frustrated Gordon. The passionate songwriter and singer is currently attached to Sky Studio run by the renowned producer Adrian Bailey.

“Adrian trying hard with me but you know when the money don’t flow it is hard to get the project moving.” He said that he understands that when people come with money to do projects then his work has to take a back seat.

“Roots” is appealing for someone to step up and help him produce a full album. “I know I have what it takes if I get the help,” he stated confidently. He is also on the look out for a manager to guide him on the business end of the music industry. “I could write songs and sing them but I don’t know much about the business things.”

One thing for sure, is if Rosita Snagg, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Mobilization has her way, “Roots” will have his wish granted. “Why do we bother to bring in so many foreign artistes when we have people like this young man around?” she commented, referring to “Roots” when she addressed the exhibition’s opening ceremony after his rendition. Perhaps she might consider expanding her managerial role?
