Dr. Samuel takes up post at hospital

Earlier this week, Dr. Malcolm Samuel returned to St. Vincent and the Grenadines from the United Kingdom to take up an appointment as a Consultant General Surgeon at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. He was the 1978 Island Scholar and did his undergraduate training at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica and Cave Hill, Barbados.##:M[more]##

Following registration, Dr. Samuel trained in general surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Barbados (1985-90); University Hospital, Jamaica (1990-93) and the United Kingdom (1993-97). In May 1997 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of England.

Dr. Samuel returned to the QEH, Barbados and continued his surgical experience as Senior Registrar until 2002 when he returned to the UK for a period of higher surgical training. This he pursued through several hospital appointments including fellowships in breast disease and renal transplantation.

Dr. Samuel has been actively involved in sports medicine and anti-doping activities and has served as team physician to the West Indies Cricket Team at Test matches in Barbados and Jamaica and for the SVG national football team during World Cup preliminary matches in 2001. He is also a trained doping control officer and has carried out drug testing activities at various regional and international events.

Dr. Samuel holds membership of a number of professional organizations including the British Transplant Society and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the Caribbean College of Surgeons.

Dr. Samuel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Samuel of Hope and the father of Julian and Shari.
