Rotaract Club is 20 Years Old

Having marked its 20th anniversary on March 14, the Rotaract Club of Kingstown has decided to chart a fresh course for the future that will rebuild the club with more youth.

This is in keeping with the Rotaract’s district slogan “Rebuilding the World through Rotaract”. {{more}}

During the club’s last quarter it conducted a recruitment drive that saw 11 new faces joining the ranks of the Rotaract Club of Kingstown.

And by the end of this year, another recruitment drive will be carried out.

Camille Soleyn, President of the Rotaract Club of Kingstown said one of the challenges facing the Rotaract Club of Kingstown relates to the fact that most of its senior members are leaving having attained the age of 30. The club’s age range is 18-30.

Soleyn, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, said the club will be making efforts this year to become more visible in the community so that young people can be sensitized to the activities the members are involved in.

Highlighting some of the club’s activities, Soleyn spoke of the popular Courts Rotaract Spelling B Competition, the “Feed the Homeless” Programme, International Evening and the Rotary/Rotaract Children Christmas Party.

Last December, members of the club performed a charitable gesture when they hosted a gift shower for the children at the St.Benedict’s Day Nursery and Infant Hospital, Mt. Bentinck, Georgetown.

Soon the Rotaract Club of Kingstown will start a mentoring programme at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School as well as a anti-smoking awareness campaign.

And Natasha Jeffrey, the District Rotaract Representative, is appealing to all young Vincentians to get involved in the Rotaract Club of Kingstown or a community based group.

“You learn a lot, you get to build your professional life as well as your personal life. Some of my best friends are Rotaractors both locally and regionally,” said Jeffrey who heads District 7030, which involves 27 clubs from 13 countries starting from St.Kitts in the north to Surinam in the south.

“It’s a wonderful experience to be a member of the Rotaract family where you have an opportunity to give back to your community,” said Jeffrey.
