Breaking new ground

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard broke new ground on 17th February 2006 when 11 recruits graduated from the first RSS Basic Seamanship Course conducted here in St. Vincent at the Coast Guard Base.

The RSS Basic Seamanship 5-week course is held annually at the RSS Training Unit in Antigua. {{more}} Participants to this course come from the RSS member states and the British Dependant Territories of Turks and Caicos, Montserrat, Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Anguilla.

Twelve (12) participants started the course and eleven graduated. Members of the RSS Training Unit and from the United Kingdom Security Advisory Team (UK SAT) based in Antigua who visited St. Vincent to assess the course were quite impressed with the standard of the course.

The graduates of the course are: AB Brenda Durrant, AB Karla Timm, AB Andine Mattis, AB Vandyke David, AB Kemron Beache, AB Jihan Lampkin, AB Daniel Foyle, AB Marlon Simon, AB Renrick Gibson, AB Dwight Lewis, and AB Beres Quammie.

A second course will start on 6th March 2006 when ten (10) persons will be trained.
