Cingular customers urged not to worry

Earlier this week Digicel announced their completion of the acquisition of Cingular Wireless in St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Public Relations Manager of Digicel, Jerry George said that they have officially taken over the operation of the company in both countries. {{more}} George said this gives Digicel an opportunity to excel and expand throughout the Caribbean region.

Full integration plans between both companies are underway to ensure smooth transition of Cingular customers on the islands. These plans will allow Cingular customers to soon have full access to Digicel’s valued offerings including competitive rates, innovative products and state of the art handsets. An additional roaming agreement between Digicel and Cingular will also bring favourable roaming rates to Digicel customers.

George further added that full transition would be forthcoming in the ‘next couple of weeks’. He urged Cingular customers not to worry about having to change their phone numbers as they will automatically become members of the Digicel family. He disclosed that customers would now expect to see an expanse of coverage and service throughout the islands.

With this acquisition of Cingular Wireless’ Caribbean and Bermuda operations, Digicel is now in a position to increase the size of its pan- Caribbean GSM network to include Bermuda, Anguilla, Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Dominica, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The company looks forward to receiving regulatory approval in the remaining markets of Barbados and the Cayman Islands in the near future.
