Woman attacked, robbed at Enhams

The agent of death seems to be lurking on the lonely road leading to Enhams.

On April 10, 2004 nine days after she mysteriously disappeared, the decomposed body of Vanester Lorraine, a 23-year-old mother was found in a bushy area above the Enhams Clinic. Now, 18 months after that tragic incident Rhona Hadaway a resident of Rivulet, said she believed that she might have escaped the jaws of death on the Enhams Road last Saturday morning while on her way to work.{{more}}

At about 8:30 a.m. Hadaway was walking towards the Enhams gap when she was attacked from behind by a young man who almost choked her to death.

“I was close to the turning to enter the main road when I feel someone grip me on my bottom. By the time I turn around his fingers were around my throat.

“I tried to scream at the first instance but he held on there until I give up my breath,” said Hadaway as she recalled the frightful drama.

“He actually cut off my breathing. The last thing I remember me saying was oh God have mercy upon my two children,” Hadaway said as she fought back tears.

“He threw me on the pitch and came and started choking me again. Then he slapped me in my face, picked up my bag and ran,” reminisced Hadaway.

Hadaway said as she helped herself to the main road to get help, she spat blood.

Workers at a nearby block shed assisted her.

Hadaway is warning persons who may choose to use the Enhams Road to do so in groups to avoid falling prey to persons with dangerous intentions.

Her traumatic experience took place one day before she celebrated her 45th birthday.

A police press release has stated that Ali Gibson, a 26-year-old labourer of Diamond was arrested and charged for the theft of a quantity of items valued at $455, the property of Rhona Hadaway of Rivulet.

Gibson was remanded in custody when he appeared before the Calliaqua Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
