New Democratic Party breaks silence

New Democratic Party breaks silence

After taking a break from mass political rallies, the New Democratic Party (NDP) re-emerged last weekend with thousands of supporters to wage battle at Mt. Bentinck and to demonstrate it would be a force to reckon with in the upcoming General Elections.

Recently, political pundits and those claiming to be pundits had chided the NDP for being too quiet, but on Saturday night, with a mammoth crowd turnout, the NDP proved that it was still alive and well.{{more}}

The NDP’s guns were trained directly on Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and the Christian Council. Both came in for heavy criticism by the President of the New Democratic Party (NDP) and Opposition Leader, Arnhim Eustace who, addressing the large gathering of Party faithful, gave the Christian Council a serious tongue lashing calling the body gutless and saying he does not have much confidence in them.

“I want to say tonight I am reluctantly participating with the Christian Council and the committee [the National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism] in the monitoring of these elections because I have very little confidence based on the experience of the last four years in the members of that committee mostly members of some of our clergy,” said Eustace.

Eustace further stated that it was time the Christian Council and NMCM stood up and be counted.

The Opposition Leader said he had instructed Party chairman Linton Lewis, to write a letter on Monday to the Christian Council and National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism (NMCM), calling on them “to condemn the statement of the Prime Minister of

St. Vincent and the Grenadines in relation to my visibility”.

Lewis is the NDP’s representative on the National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism (NMCM), a committee established by the Christian Council to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections.
