History tops among list of As

History has topped the list of As among the A’Level results.

And the results – six As for any one-subject area in the Community College this year – have made Decima Hamilton, the History lecturer a proud woman after years of hard work!{{more}}

The students, who brought great pride to the History class this year, and especially to the Community College Heritage Club, are Afiesha Charles, Charlene Douglas, Rhonia Durham, Cerepha Harper, Michelle Jack and Janelle Thomas.They all scored As!

Charlene, Rhonia and Janelle all worked voluntarily as tutorial support staff for the Lower Six History students.

Decima Hamilton, History lecturer since the inception of the College in 1997, said the results were a culmination of several years’ work. She noted that the students had benefited from the mistakes of others.

The lecturer believes that the extra work put in by the A’ Level students who served as tutorial support staff, free of cost, was integral to their overall development and resulted in the improved grades.

“They did it out of commitment for the Heritage Club,” said Hamilton, who founded the History-based club in 1997.

The bulk of the passes in the subject this year were between grades A and C, with 27 out of 49 students falling in this category resulting in an overall pass rate of 88 per cent. Only six students out of 49 did not make it.

Hamilton praised the parents of the Heritage Club members for their encouragement and support over the years.

And in Caribbean Studies, one of the new courses introduced by the college, Hamilton had more laurels added to her crown when she received 100 per cent passes for the second year in a row. The hard-working lecturer pilots this course.

Hamilton admitted it was a challenge lecturing both courses but said she was satisfied with the end results.
