US $15 million approved for Canouan Jet Port

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has signed documents granting St. Vincent and the Grenadines authority to borrow US $15 million from the Scotiatrust and Merchant Bank of Trinidad and Tobago for the upgrading of the Canouan Airport. {{more}}

Prior to signing the document, Dr. Gonsalves who is also the Minister of Finance, said that in light of the development taking place on the Grenadine island, it is imperative that the project gets on the way very soon.

The Prime Minister also outlined complimentary plans for the island which include the construction of a new police station and an administrative office.

Dr. Gonsalves also disclosed that Government and the international Moorings Company, would be building a top of the line marina on the island. “Canouan is actually going to be the destination in the Caribbean. It is going to be a major establishment for tourism and employment generation in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” he said.

The project is expected to begin early next year. Terrence Clarke, assistant general manager and Tarin Clarke, manager of Scotia Bank Trinidad and Tobago Limited, signed on behalf of the Bank.
