Youths to be taught how to perform exercises correctly

A venture designed to encourage the nation’s youths to get active will begin this Saturday.

Vincy Youth Health and Wellness Academy, founded by personal trainer Allan Hanson, seeks to train children to perform exercise techniques correctly.

The certified youth fitness trainer said it was a surprise to him that adults, whom he trains privately, do not know how to do a correct push-up or squat, at a moment when exercising was critical to reducing health risks at their ages. Hanson believes that teaching children to perform exercise techniques correctly would inculcate a passion for exercising, which he hopes permits a continuity into adulthood.

Hanson, who has produced a 2017 summer exercise programme for the children of Largo Heights, said the Academy is free of cost to children between the ages of eight and 18.

He explained that he will teach box jumping, pushups, burpies, squats, body building posing, figure fitness posing (for females), dance aerobics and self-motivational techniques.

The programme begins February 3 and will continue every Saturday at the Victoria Park. Exercise sessions for children between eight and 12 years old will be held between 10 a.m. and noon, while 13 to 18-year-olds will be coached from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Parents are encouraged to acompany their children to the session.
