Year One DASGS remain SVGCC’s Inter-divisional Football champs

Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies kept off debutants All Saints Medical, three goals to nil in kicks from the penalty spot, to retain the French Verandah National Lotteries Authority SVG Community College’s inter-divisional football title last Friday evening at the Victoria Park.

In a match fitting of a final, Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies took the lead in the 4th minute, through an Enrique Millington item.

But their joy was short-lived, as All Saints Medical hit back in the 11th minute, through Oliseh Nwadome, to send their vocal band of fellow Nigerians in a frenzy in the main grand stand at the venue.

More eruptions were heard as Gabez Emmanuel gave All Saints Medical the lead in the 57th minute.

This goal seemed to have been the wake-up call for Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies, to act on, as they began to make foray after foray on the opponents’ goal area.

A free kick on the stroke of regulation time, resulted in an All Saints Medical player putting the ball into his own net, thus sending the match to kicks from the penalty spot.

Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies converted their first three kicks, while All Saints Medical missed all three, as the 2016 champions remained with the title.

Earlier in the afternoon, Just Graduated Combined took third place when they got past Year One Technical and Vocational 2 -1. Kewon Clarke and Jowan Sawyers scored for the past students, while Damien Williams found the back of the net for Year One Technical and Vocational Division.

And, in the exhibition game, Students defeated Staff three goal to one.

The prizegiving ceremony that took place after the final, saw Kenneth Osuji of All Saints Medical copping the Best Striker award and Erel Hector of Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies winning the Best Midfielder and MVP of the Finals awards.

Sachin James of Just Graduated Combined received the Best Goalkeeper award, while Sampson Abolaji of the All Saints Medical got the Best Defender award.

Omar Cupid completed the list, as he walked away with the Most Goals and the MVP of the Tournament awards.
