Eight for Miss Heritage 2013

Eight talented teenagers gave a panel of judges a taste of what they hope to portray in the 2013 Secondary Schools Miss Heritage Pageant, during a preliminary round which was held last Saturday at Frenches House.{{more}}

The girls spent the day showcasing their aptitude in talent, interview and impromptu segments and had the opportunity to meet the media.

The eight contestants include Lateefa Noel of the Girls’ High School; Terreka Nero of the Buccament Bay Secondary School; Crystel-Lyn Browne of the Bequia Community High School; Nia Grecia of the Intermediate High School; Kia May of the Sandy Bay Secondary School; Sharikah Rodney of the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown; Waynenesha Sandy of the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua, and Mililone Edwards of the West St George Secondary School.

15-year-old Lateefa Noel of the GHS believes that confidence is key to success. Noel, who was awarded best talent, interview and impromptu at the preliminary round, has been a dancer since the age of four and aspires to be a choreographer in the future.

Buccament Bay fourth form student Terreka Nero enjoys dancing and singing and is a very active member in her church. She hopes to pursue a career in teaching, so that she can positively shape the lives of her students.

George Phillips Awardee Crystel-Lyn Browne of the Bequia Community High School has a vibrant and jovial personality and believes that the exposure from entering Miss Heritage would do her a world of good. In the future, Browne aspires to become a fashion designer or air hostess.

Sandy Bay resident Kia May of the Sandy Bay Secondary School has three sisters and one brother. She is a firm believer in the saying, “Knowledge is power” which is fitting for her career goal of becoming a teacher.

Nia Grecia of the Intermediate High School considers herself to be mannerly and respectful. Grecia, who lives in an extended family home, has a close relationship with her family and likes to help her disabled sister and grandparents.

Hailing from the village of Greiggs, Sharikah Rodney of the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown considers her mother to be her role model. In her spare time, Rodney pursues her interest in modelling and would like to be a contestant in the Miss SVG pageant.

Waynenesha Sandy of the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua was given the media award, during the preliminary round. Truly a dancer at heart, Sandy enjoys African and Latin dancing. After graduating from the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua, she hopes to study law at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus.

Mililone Edwards of the West St George Secondary School believes that being involved in extra-curricular activities makes her a more disciplined individual, as well as teaches her many skills. The 15-year-old currently has membership in the Red Cross, her school’s music band and Environmental Science club and she enjoys playing netball.

The National Secondary Schools Miss Heritage pageant is hosted by the Girls’ High School and is scheduled to take place on October 19 at the Victoria Park.(BK)
