Eight ladies to vie for Miss St George

The St George Carnival activities shift into high gear this weekend.

Foster Hannibal, chairman of the St George Carnival Rural Committee, said expectations are high, since it’s the first time that East and West St George have merged to have Carnival, and patrons can indeed expect bigger, better and brighter activities.{{more}}

Eight contestants will vie for the title of Miss St George this evening at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex.

The eight contestants are Ashaka Woods, a student of the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, representing the tranquil West St George Community of Dauphine; Shanta Ellis, a fifth form science student of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia, will appear as Ms Ashburton; Christine Hunte, Ms Cane Hall, is a former student of the Intermediate High School, while Lystra Burgin, a year one information technology student of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, Division of Arts and General Studies, will carry the Belair flag.

The other contestants are Shannon Morgan, Ms Glen, a student of the Bishop’s College Kingstown; Sasha Joseph, a crowd favourite, who will ignite the patrons as Ms Choppins. She is a first year hospitality student of the Division of Technical and Vocational Education of the SVGCC. The vivacious Mya Frazer, final year, small business management student of the Division of Technical and Vocational Education of the SVGCC will greet patrons as Ms Diamond. The culturally diverse coastal fishing community of Calliaqua will be represented by Angelique Parris, a former student of the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua.

According to June Goodluck Mc Queen, coordinator of the Miss St George Pageant, the eight young ladies have been in training for the last four weeks and are bursting with energy, talent, beauty and intelligence and patrons can expect a competitive show.

The young women will make four judged appearances, swimwear, talent, evening gown, and interview. The show will also see the staging of the East St George Soca and Calypso competitions. Other activities hosted by the St George Carnival Committee this year include J’Ouvert and street party, on Saturday, June 8 and Kiddies Carnival on Sunday June 9.

Tickets at $15.00 can be obtained at John Dougan Shop, Calliaqua, or from any member of the St George committee.
