Mijé lifts bar at Fashion Bliss show

Despite the rainy start, organizers of Fashion Bliss, last Sunday delivered on the promise of a top class production with a kaleidoscope of fashion.{{more}}

Jean Johnny Findlay, CEO of Mije and executive producer of Fashion Bliss, expressed her belief that the goals of the show, held at the Arnos Vale Playing Field had been met.

“We planned to lift the bar and our standards to show our level of maturity as the leading fashion and modelling agency in St Vincent and I think we did that,” Findlay said.

In previous years, the highly anticipated show was branded “Carnival Catwalk”, but Findlay pointed out that the agency has rebranded and there is much more to look forward to from Mije.

“We are no longer Carnival Catwalk. As we say, we are growing and we have moved away from that aspect,” she said.

Fashion Bliss offered patrons a unique mix of local and regional designers.

In this mix was local designer, Julesia Alexander, who showcased her 2013 spring/summer collection which she describes as a “daydream collection”.

Under the label of PixieJ Designs, the collection featured a wide array of fashion suited for women of all sizes.

“I like to fantasize in terms of fabric and what I can do with it,” Alexander explained. “I love making pieces for women of all curves and sizes”.

Alexander, who hails from the Grenadine island of Union, told SEARCHLIGHT that she thinks the show was well received and that it exceeded her expectations.

St Maarten designer Kaishah Peters also had positive feedback about the event, so much so that she hopes to visit St Vincent once more, in the near future.

“The show was really good tonight and I enjoyed it very much,” she said.

Her line, KAI Design and Production, offers handcrafted knit and crochet wear for women of all sizes. Peters explained that her pieces are usually inspired by her moods and colours around her.

Similarly, Janay Raymond of Anguilla said that she has been designing since the age of 12 and showcased a line with bold colours and prints.

The designer featured both swimsuits and dresses that had patrons looking on in admiration.

Peters disclosed that it was her first time in St Vincent, but expected nothing more than a spectacular show, particularly because it was a production of Barbadian Kofi “Keemz” Branch.

Other designers showcasing their 2013 spring/summer collection were Kimon Baptiste (Kimmysytic Clo.), Shari Osborne (Waddada Beads) and Charity Gorman of St Vincent and the Grenadines; Andrew Harris of Barbados; and Carol Fraser (Miracle Hands Designs) of Guyana.

Findlay expressed gratitude to the sponsors and persons involved in making the show a success.(BK)
