‘Wiz Kidd’ aiming to be top soca artiste in region

Travis “Wiz Kidd” Lynch is a 21-year-old electrician of Green Hill, but his true aspiration is to become one of the best soca artistes in the region.{{more}}

To help accomplish his dream, Lynch has landed himself the position of lead vocalist with local band, Akcess.

In an exclusive interview with Wiz Kidd at the band house recently, the young man explained that he has been a part of the band since inception in 2008.

One year after joining the band, Wiz Kidd said he got the breakthrough he was seeking.

He explained that one of the first songs he recorded was a song entitled “Crazy”.

He then continued his journey to release more soca music.

In 2009, he recorded the song “Rags” and the following year “Hands”.

The two songs, he said, were well received, but it was in 2011 that the Wiz Kidd said he got the recognition he always desired, when for the first time, he entered Soca Monarch competition with the song “Hype up”.

“After entering Soca Monarch, the feedback from the people was good and I would say that was the track that gave me my buss, because people then recognize that there is someone name Wiz Kid.”

With a voice similar to that of dancehall artiste Bounty Killer and the stage performance of Machel Montano, Wiz Kidd says it’s his desire to continue along the path of those who set the trend for upcoming artistes such as himself.

Wiz Kidd claims that music was instilled in him from birth. He says his parents told him since the age of two, he used to go about making music by hitting empty pans and other objects that he could get his hands on.

His preferred genre of music is dance hall, but unable to gain the entrance into the highly populated dancehall industry, Wiz said he was introduced to music producer Junior Sutherland and that’s where he made the transition.

“It has been going good so far and I just want to reach as far as possible in my career as an artiste. I want to be able to win Soca Monarch like any other soca artiste would want to.

“I want to be among the recognized and established soca artistes such as Skinny Fabulous or Bunji Garlin,” he said.

In his spare time, Wiz enjoys doing nothing else than making music.

“Outside of singing, the only other thing I really enjoy doing is making music. So in my spare time, I find myself creating riddims and writing songs.

Asked if he plays any sport, Wiz said, “Nah I’m not a sports man, just music.”

The young man said he is mostly self-motivated to continue making music that will entertain people while climbing the ladder of success.

He disclosed that when he was younger, he told people in his community that he wanted to become an artiste, but most persons doubted he would achieve his ambition.

“It’s just a feeling within me. I just want to be on top and while doing so, I want to ensure that my fans are well treated and satisfied with the music I put out for them.

“By people doubting me, that just motivated me to press on more and I am not where I want to be as yet, but I am content and confident going forward,” he further stated.

Wiz Kid and the Akcess band are in studios working on his five songs for carnival 2012 and thus far, “Rags up” is the first to be released.

“Rags up promises to be a big hit,” he added.

The young and upcoming soca artiste is promising carnival revelers satisfaction with regard to his ‘Rags up” song on the Indian Tail riddim produced by Junior Sutherland.

“My plan for this year and ongoing is to please the people with the music I put out and in doing so, advance myself in this soca industry,” Wiz Kidd stated.
